I was wondering if i should buy

Both have good graphics and gameplay.
I recommend Nightfall, which has a good tutorial, the customizable heros, and the newest area. |

I am sorry for double posting but the edit button wasnt working anyway

each campaign can be standalone or an addon the campaigns just unlock their perspective continents for the account you create (prophecies [aka guild wars] - tyria, factions - cantha, nightfall - elona)

You only need one of the titles to play. Each one will work as a stand-alone game. If you get Nightfall, you'll be able to play in the Nightfall realm. But you won't be able to play in the lands and have access to the contents of factions and Prophecies.
But, once you have one, you can add the others to your account like expansions. |
